Medication Rescue exists for the patients. It’s the primary motivation for what we do. When patients receive prescriptions from RemediChain at no cost to them, we often hear similar things.

But one patient’s story is best described with just one word…hope. That’s how Jeff Boyd’s loved ones describe his journey.
Diagnosis: Stage IV Esophageal Cancer
Jeff was a father of three; a husband; and a skilled, hardworking man whose final project – a satellite that launched into space on July 21, 2026 – became part of his legacy.
When Jeff was diagnosed with stage IV esophageal cancer in July 2025, the family was ready to help him fight it. Jeff completed four rounds of chemotherapy. But none of it improved his cancer.
Jeff’s oncologist identified a C-met mutation on his cancer’s DNA and suggested he try Tabrecta, a drug he called a “Hail Mary” treatment. Jeff’s mutation burden was low, giving the drug a slim chance of success.
Seemingly out of options, Jeff and his family decided to pursue the treatment.
An Insurance Denial
Unfortunately for the Boyds, Jeff’s insurance plan wouldn’t cover the treatment for his case.
The only remaining option for Jeff – and not an attractive one – was second-line chemotherapy. At best, it might buy Jeff some time, but it would be a trade-off for his quality of life. The first four rounds of chemotherapy left Jeff exhausted, sleeping most of his days away, malnourished, confused, and unable to drive, socialize, or do anything productive. He had been in the hospital multiple times and was already getting home health – physical therapy, occupational therapy, and nursing care.
The family, not looking forward to such a course of action, began seeking a way to access the Tabrecta – which was prohibitively expensive without insurance approval.
The Medication Rescue

The Boyds first sought an appeal of the insurance plan’s denial – but it failed. That’s when they learned about RemediChain. When they applied for prescription assistance to access Tabrecta, it felt like yet another Hail Mary. But it worked. RemediChain had two months’ worth of the drug in inventory.
Jeff received his first doses of Tabrecta from RemediChain in mid-October 2025 at no cost to him or his family.
The Results
Within a few weeks of beginning Tabrecta, Jeff’s personality was back. He was driving, awake, grocery shopping, and enjoying life with his family. When RemediChain sent his second month’s supply, the family planned a vacation for December 2025.
Unfortunately, that second month was the last of the Tabrecta available in RemediChain’s inventory. Given the drug’s benefits, Jeff’s entire support system dug in, determined to access more of this medication that had given them another chance to enjoy life with their husband, father, and friend. They chronicled the incredible turnaround in his health, including the ability to live independently – outside the hospital and without home health assistance. They appealed to both their insurance company and the manufacturer assistance program.
It worked.
Both the insurance company and Novartis agreed to support Jeff’s access to Tabrecta. The insurance company called it “clearly medically necessary.” As his wife, Jennifer, describes it, the family cried tears of joy. The first manufacturer assistance dose came on Christmas Eve 2025 – when Jeff had just one tablet left in his RemediChain-provided bottle of Tabrecta.
A remarkable turnaround in Jeff’s health with the help of the RemediChain-provided Tabrecta allowed the family to take a trip together in December 2025.
Jeff’s Legacy
Jeff ultimately lost his battle with esophageal cancer in May 2026. But his legacy will not be easily forgotten. The rest is best told by his wife, Jennifer, in an email she sent to RemediChain when she donated the remaining Tabrecta he had left. She donated two months’ worth of fulfilled but unused Tabrecta to help another patient in need – exactly the amount Jeff had received so many months earlier.
“What I want the RemediChain team to know is that NONE of this would have happened if we had not gotten the first two months of medication from you. We were able to show it worked because you all gave it to us.
We got 10 months of ‘lasts’ with Jeff, and we did not take one day for granted. I will always thank cancer for that. Some people do not get to know they are going to lose the most important person in their life. I did. I got to savor every day. We celebrated our 30th anniversary early, asked him every question we could think of, he taught the girls how to change their air filters in their cars, showed me how to pay the bills, and we just soaked each other up every single day for 10 months. We are truly blessed for that, even while we are also heartbroken that it couldn’t last forever.
[To the benefit of other patients] Our doctor learned through [this experience] that a very low C-met mutation burden can respond beautifully to Tabrecta, so he will now try that with other gravely ill patients like Jeff.
The work RemediChain does cannot be measured. It is too great. You are saving patients. You are giving more days, more good days. You are a light in darkness.

Jeff Boyd’s family and friends, to honor his memory, organized the largest “in memoriam” donation campaign RemediChain had ever seen up to that point. Our whole team was incredibly moved by the outsize impact Jeff clearly had on everyone around him.
Most days, RemediChain’s work is quiet. Medications are received, sorted, checked, matched, shipped, and delivered. There are forms, labels, phone calls, and small acts of persistence that often happen far from view. But occasionally the veil is lifted, and we are reminded that this work is not simply about medicine. It is about time. It is about mercy. It is about families being given more mornings, more conversations, more ordinary moments that become precious beyond measure. Jeff’s story has done that for us.
